Himanshu Sharma prepared the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II exam with the online Programming and Integration training of GetSkillSFast Academy and cleared the exam successfully. Himanshu sent us a testimonial regarding his exam study plan and how he passed the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II certification exam.
Here is how he cracked the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II certification exam.
Dear GetSkillsFast team,
I would love to share my experiences with future Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II certification exam prospects and have tried my best to outline the steps I followed for the same.
I followed the structured certification exam guide thoroughly that helped me a lot with my preparation.
For each topic, I first read the official developer guide and then followed the video courses from you, this greatly helped me understand and rectify any knowledge area gaps.
Next I accumulated some practice questions for each knowledge areas and one thing I did explicitly was that I didn’t only cram them but also tried to understand the logic behind the answers, sometimes even for an answer which was not right. I always ensured that no matter if the answer was right or wrong, I always matched my understanding with the logic.
I followed the above steps religiously for two weeks.
After completing your course thoroughly I created a hypothetical project to understand the complete flow. I solved my hypothetical project requirement by breaking it down into the following four sections
- What is the business problem I’m trying to solve.
- What inputs would be required for this? Scope and requirements.
- Designed a flowchart as to how I will achieve the following tasks and then break it down into smaller workflows.
- What would be the outcome of my working.
Undoubtedly the exam was harder than the App Builder and Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I exam.
Salesforce is a massive system and my day to day usage left entire aspects of the system as a mystery to me. Completing multiple practice exams help me to work out where I was weak and also to get use to the type of questions used on the actual exam.
Here are some of the tips that I used to pass the exam on my first attempt.
I did not use any cram cards for the following reasons
- Not sure how accurate they were.
- No link to more details sources of information, knowing that the answer is of limited use unless you know why that was the correct answer.
- You should also be beware of sample questions available online in dubious places because a lot of them have wrong or outdated information.
I have been working on the Salesforce platform for more than three years now and I would recommend that do not even think of attempting this exam without hands-on experience on the platform. It would be an extremely uphill battle to pass. And not only just this exam, even for the app builder exam it is recommended that you have some hands-on experience because if you have good understanding of the various components of force.com platform then you would be able to get some of the answers right in the exam based on just your experience and knowledge.
Taking the Exam
Go through the paper once and answer all the questions while marking the ones you need to think about.
Marking the questions for review is a very important strategy, because if you mark a question for review and come back to it later than you will not waste time reading all the options again due to nervousness and while you would have attempted the maximum part of the exam already you will be much more confident while going through the questions you have marked for review.
It is also a nice feeling to know how close you are to passing before hitting submit.
Going through all the questions twice is more work but will help you avoid any silly mistakes that may cost you marks.
Good advice on Answering question from GetSkillsFast.
When you look at an exam question, ask yourself the following for each potential answer:
- Does the feature referenced in the answer actually exist in Salesforce? If not, it could be a “trick” answer.
- Can you think of any way that the answer meets the goal(s) stipulated by the question?
- Can you think of any way that the answer would not meet the goal(s) stipulated by the question?
- Is this feature aligned to meet the goal(s) as stipulated by the question?
The certification exam was really tough, but I finished it very early and used the remaining time to review the questions that I have marked.
